VHP refuses to accept McDonald's clarifications

Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) on Saturday refused to accept the clarifications from McDonald's over the controversy generated by allegations of beef oil being used in some of the fast food giant's preparations but said it would take any step only after seeking legal advice.

Stating that there had been no complaint against the McDonald's in India, VHP general secretary Acharya Giriraj Kishore told reporters here that since the company had "lied" in the US, there was a "possibility of the same being done here".

The clarification by the McDonald's will not be accepted till a decision is taken on the suit filed against the company in the US or the complainant withdraws the petition after being "satisfied".

He, however, added that the organisation would take any action only after a legal advice.

Caught in a controversy over use of beef flavouring in French fries in the US, McDonald's India on Saturday said its vegetarian products including French fries do not contain any beef or animal extract and has taken precautions to avoid any incidents in its outlets in India.
